Hectic is...caring for a child recuperating from a bout of chicken pox, expecting the second child to break out any time now, and convincing the third one why he cannot entertain spend-the-night company.
Hectic is...seeing the last pox mark disappear, sighing relief that the scars were kept to a minimum, sighting then the start of a poison ivy rash on the just cured child.
Hectic is...attending school for four weeks without a test, being assigned four tests the next day, and having to write a theme overnight, too.
Hectic is...having a deadline to meet, having every minute until the deadline neatly planned, then having the unexpected interrupt such well laid plans.
Hectic is...knowing that tears won't help accomplish all that needs to be done, knowing that they make you feel better, then trying to explain to someone why you are crying.
Hectic is...anticipating with pleasure the arrival of out-of-town house guests whom you have been expecting, learning that another group of house guests plan to visit the next weekend and being informed that's not all; there's more to come the next.
Hectic is...getting the lawn mower ready to cut the first spring grass, spending a day working on the machinery without success, and learning from an expert that you'e just put a part on backwards.
Hectic is...trying to cook supper and tend a hungry baby at the same time, helping a youngster with his homework and hearing both the doorbell and telephone ring at the same time.
Hectic is...wanting just to sit down for a minute, hearing someone call, "come here for a minute," and almost reaching the person when he calls back, "never mind, I don't need you now."
Hectic is... dreading the sound of the alarm each morning, having a chance to sleep late just one morning and awakening at the regular time.
Hectic is...getting one youngster ready for a week's stay at one camp, getting the second ready for another camp at another site for the same week, getting both duffle bags of dirty clothes back at the same time.
Hectic is... wanting to see one youngster perform in the school play tonight, wanting to see the second youngster play his first game of the season tonight, and having to decide where you belong or if you can make both events and really see neither one.
Hectic is...
Living,
Being,
And loving every minute of it.
